It all started when

I realised there was a different way to travel other than rushing around ticking boxes off a bucket list, trying to see or do as much as possible in a couple of weeks on holiday, without actually “seeing” or “experiencing” anything.

This is the difference between being a traveller and a tourist.

Hello, my name is Hasanti Perera. I am the owner and founder of Lime Days.

I was born in Sri Lanka and have lived in Melbourne, Australia since I was 8 years old. Over the years I have re-visited Ceylon - now Sri Lanka many times: to visit relations, enjoy blissful holidays and to introduce my 3 beautiful girls to their heritage.

I am a great believer in the fine art of slow travel.

No rushing; just plenty of time to explore.

I found THE most memorable and intrinsic travel experiences I’ve had, have been my encounters with those I met along the way: the enthusiastic history buffs, the effusive foodies and mixologists, the once high-flying professionals who have reinvented themselves as specialist guides of their local areas, and the artists and the keepers of local heritage. Even the local neighbours who may invite you into their home for some local hospitality and offer you much more than a delicious and generous meal.

The dream?   To show travellers there’s more to a destination than initially meets the eye. Everyone seeks a different experience and the key is to avoid the road most travelled. Sometimes it’s the least thought of experience that shines as a highlight and these are often discovered when we allow ourselves to slow down and become travellers.

post covid-19 travel

Travel as we knew it, is gone. Perhaps not forever, but for the forseeable future.

Tourism authorities of many countries are now rethinking travel, post COVID-19, and many have reached the decision they would like to welcome back visitors - not tourists.

As the world recovers from COVID-19 and travel changes the way we explore our world, we have been offered the choice of spending more time observing our locale in detail as we walk or cycle around the destinations we plan to travel to.

As with travel, rethinking and redesigning travel plans to spend more time immersing into one location brings with it an abundance of learning about another culture, their story and their place in the world but also our connection with it.
